Groove Juice Swing offers classes on a broad range of Jazz Age and Swing Era dances: swing dance, Lindy Hop, Charleston, Balboa, vernacular jazz dance, and more. Not sure where to start out? Check out our  How It Works or  FAQ pages! 

Preregistration for classes online (here!) closes at 1am the morning of the first class of the series. Preregister to get a discount, or sign up at the door the first day of class! If a 4 week series isn't for you, we encourage you to drop-in at the door to either our  Cardio Charleston fitness class, or our free beginner swing dance lesson. The free lesson is held every Wednesday at 9pm during  Lindy Jam, our weekly social dance.March

Cardio Charleston (All Levels)

For both guys and girls—finally, a swing dance class that is focused on fitness. Join us once a week for an hour of dancing minus the starting, stopping, rotating, and waiting around. We will teach fundamental solo jazz and Charleston steps, integrating them into a fast-paced class to make sure you get a fun and energetic workout. If you've never tried solo jazz, this is a fantastic way to get started! All levels of dancers are welcome.

The Lindy Hop is the original high-energy partnered jazz dance, invented during the late 1920s in Harlem and popularized in the '30s and '40s. During this four-week series you will apply the skills learned in Swing 1 as a basis for Lindy Hop. This class will focus on the fundamentals of the dance, swing outs and other classic moves that made Lindy Hop so popular.

Finally a class to improve your Balboa skills on the social dance floor! We will move out of the eight count pattern box into a new way of thinking when dancing. Leaders and followers will also learn how to add improvisation and personal flare! Previous Balboa experience required.

If you're looking for something to bring new flavor to your Lindy Hop, Jig Walks are it! With their own basic step, countless variations, and flashy movements, Jig Walks are sure to entertain dancers and onlookers alike. This 4-week class will cover Jig Walks and related material so you can easily integrate it with your Lindy Hop.

You’ll start out with some easy and fun moves that will have you smiling right away, and then progress through some foundational skills that will prepare you for future Lindy Hop classes and the wide world of swing dancing!

If you're thinking about giving a go at the Short Showcase contest in April, this is the class for you! We will take a look at the musical structure of jazz standards, learn how to create dance sequences that match or complement the music, and create some memorable moments! We will also have the opportunity to do some group work to choreograph a short piece during class.

Come learn the basics of the dance that inspired the Lindy Hop! Charleston was one of the original swing dances, beginning in the early 1920s. Not only is it energetic and exciting in and of itself, but it's lots of fun to integrate into other forms of swing such as East Coast and Lindy Hop. No partner required.

We will also tackle what happens when you have a roadblock in your creative process, and brainstorm ways to break through those. For inspiration, we'll take a look at some memorable Lindy Hop performances, and then apply these ideas to our own choreographies in class.

Ready for some more Charleston? In this class, you’ll progress through some of the many different Charleston positions such as side by side, hand to hand, and more in addition to some cool new variations and higher tempos. You will leave the class with confidence and a strong vocabulary of moves to work with on the social dance floor.

Generally, classes are 4 weeks long and begin the first week of each month. They become open for registration when they are posted on this page, at least 2 weeks before their start date. Groove Juice Swing, established in 2004, is based in Rochester, NY and specializes in Lindy Hop, the original form of swing dance from the 1920s and 1930s. Groove Juice Swing offers dance classes, weekly social dances, live band dance events, performances, and dance workshops throughout the year. Staff members and instructors are passionate about all things Lindy Hop, traveling all over the world to compete against and learn from the very best Lindy Hoppers.
