March 15th 2025: Thinking 'Bout Swing Music

Date: Saturday, March 15th
Location: The Rose Room, 295 Gregory Street, Main Ballroom
Admission: $40 preregistered, $44 at door ($20 for morning class, $12 per afternoon class)

Join us for a day of music-focused workshops to improve your dancing and DJing skills! In the morning, learn about the different styles of swing music, their histories, and what dances they inspired from our resident expert, Mike Thibault. Then local bandleader Alex Burr will walk you through his thoughts when playing for dancers. Lastly, our local head DJ Artem Pugachev will give you the rundown on what you need if you want to start DJing!

10:30am - 12:30pm Music Styles and History

Swing music comes in many styles. Come learn about the unique sounds of each of these styles, their history, and the dances danced to them!

12:45pm - 2:00pm LUNCH BREAK

2:00pm - 3:15pm Music From a Bandleader's Perspective

We dance to a lot of music but do you ever wonder what the musicians are thinking? Alex, leader of the Gregory Street Vagabonds, will walk you through his thoughts when preparing and playing for dancers!

3:30pm - 4:45pm Intro to DJing

If you've ever wanted to be a DJ, this is the class for you! Art will walk you through everything you need to get started playing for your local dances!
